Classification of Intravascular Ultrasound Signal by Kernel Density Estimation and Bayes Theorem for Identification of Coronary Plaque Tissue

چکیده
We propose a method for tissue characterization of coronary plaque using IntraVascular UltraSound (IVUS) data. In the proposed algorithm, the probability density function of each plaque is calculated by the kernel density estimation and neural gas. The probability distributions vary continuously and overlap one another in the feature space. The class labels of tissue are determined by using Bayes estimation. This algorithm enables to give more delicate information to a medical doctor, which matches with the real situation of plaque composition. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is presented brief and its effectiveness is confirmed by applying it to the real IVUS data.

Background: Intravascular imaging is a tool to detect coronary artery atherosclerosis which plays the major role in vessel stenosis degree determination and plaque pathology as a supplement of invasive angiography. This study aimed at comparing Intravascular imaging with invasive angiography. Materials and Methods: For retrieving second type studies, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Centre for R...
متن کاملTissue Characterization of Coronary Plaques Using Intravascular Ultrasound/Virtual Histology
Most studies related with plaque histopathology and/or morphology are based on the gray scale intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and autopsy findings, although IVUS is limited for differentiating echolucent areas, and tissue shrinkage almost always occur during tissue fixation. In addition, autopsy studies can not establish the causal relationship between the autopsy findings and the clinical find...
متن کاملCoronary plaque classification with intravascular ultrasound radiofrequency data analysis.
BACKGROUND Atherosclerotic plaque stability is related to histological composition. However, current diagnostic tools do not allow adequate in vivo identification and characterization of plaques. Spectral analysis of backscattered intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) data has potential for real-time in vivo plaque classification. METHODS AND RESULTS Eighty-eight plaques from 51 left anterior desce...
متن کاملNon-invasive estimation of cardiac wall stress by using tissue doppler-echocardiography ultrasound images: People with coronary artery stenosis
In this study, a method for non-invasive estimation of stress on the heart wall in the diastole phase is presented using ultrasound echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress on the heart wall as a pre-diagnosis to identify people with coronary artery stenosis. 29 patients with stenosis of more than 70%, 30 patients with stenosis of 50 to 7...
متن کاملAssessment of coronary plaque morphology by contrast-enhanced computed tomographic angiography: comparison with intravascular ultrasound.
BACKGROUND Computed tomographic (CT) angiography provides accurate noninvasive assessment for coronary artery stenosis. The ability of CT angiography to determine plaque morphology remains unclear. METHODS Twelve patients undergoing intravascular ultrasound for clinical indications underwent CT angiography for the evaluation of plaque morphology. Plaque morphology was classified as (1) soft, ...
